Why does one negative nancy always make me feel like total crappola?

I never made initial contact with the West Seattle Blog and the only follow up contact I had with them was because they showed a genuine interest in the yarn bombing and I thought they’d like to see pictures. In fact all the photos they’ve used on the blog are not photos from me. I don’t email and say GO DO A STORY, but they follow my twitter and other people involved in YarnCore have sent in tips.
So, this brings up an interesting point. Should I not be tagging my work? Do I not deserve any credit for the work I have done? I know many artists in different mediums such as painters, doll makers, tattoo artists, graphic artists, dancers, singers, etc, and they all have a blog, website, facebook page or twitter. They market themselves and try to get their name out there. So why is what I am doing any different? I’m not seeking fortune, and I’m not putting my real name on anything, so it isn’t like I’m trying to gain much fame for myself. I’m trying to get YarnCore out there because I love doing it and I want to share it with others and have others join me. I’m trying to figure out exactly what is wrong with that.
Or maybe I just shouldn’t pay attention to trolls.

All the usual aphorisms apply – consider the source, don’t take it personally, take it with a grain of salt, and don’t pay attention to trolls.

I think WSB responded to this well and you made good points about Banksy, etc. Maybe the next bomb can be on Alki and you can leave a card that says, “To Alkimama, From YarnCore.”

Trolls are anonymous skulking shitbags. Of course you deserve recognition for your work! The WSB reports about things in West Seattle, and what you do provides an interesting form of artistic expression in WS that should be talked about. Toot your horn – the rest of us will, too. And tell those trolls to go fuck themselves. Jealousy is ugly.

I’ve been working in online stuff for the last several years and you would not believe some of the horrible things people have said about me and my colleagues. People seem to feel freer to say mean things online because you don’t have to look someone directly in the eye while you’re saying it. I mean, can you imagine that woman walking up to you in person and saying any of that? It’s really hard but you definitely have to learn not to take it personally. If Internet criticism is given more freely it should also be disregarded more freely.

I agree with what everyone else said above. And WSB did a nice job of clarifying. Some people just are unhappy, and they aren’t going to be changing anytime soon. Press your ignore button and carry on.

I don’t think you need to follow the trolls. I don’t put a card on the yarnbomb but I do post a picture of each one on my blog and facebook. Then I’m not trying to build a brand. maybe that is their issue.

I’m not the first person to put a tag on a yarn bomb and did not come up with the idea on my own. I’m not trying to build a brand, exactly, but when I see things like this I ALWAYS want to be able to visit the website to see what it’s about. That is why I tag it. Also, I’m trying to build a group, so why not tell people what the group is called?
Not to mention that the one I’m doing this weekend is going to go back to a blog post about a fundraiser that is happening. I just don’t see what’s wrong with putting your name on your own work. Don’t other people sign their own artwork?
